HYEOPJAE BEACH
- More cafés, restaurants and visitor facilities nearby
- A well-known western Jeju beach facing Biyangdo Island
- Often busy during the summer swimming season
- Extended safety-managed swimming hours on selected dates in 2026
HYEOPJAE & GEUMNEUNG

I prefer to walk Hyeopjae and Geumneung together. The distance is short, but the two beaches do not feel the same.

AT A GLANCE
EDITORIAL OBSERVATION
Hyeopjae and Geumneung make more sense when walked together.
Because Hyeopjae and Geumneung sit so close together, I rarely treat them as an either-or choice.
Hyeopjae feels busier and more connected to the cafés and shops around it. Continue toward Geumneung and the pace gradually slows around the wider sand and shallower water.
I return outside the swimming season too. Walking both beaches near sunset makes their different light and foregrounds easier to notice.
On crowded days, I stop circling for the closest space and park legally beyond the busiest stretch. The extra walk fits the place better anyway.

BEACH TO BEACH
The walk between the two is short enough that I can notice the change in mood without getting back in the car.

I walk both: Hyeopjae for its energy, then Geumneung for a slower stretch of sand and sea.
WHEN TO GO
I notice the difference between Hyeopjae and Geumneung most clearly while walking, and the tide changes that walk each time.
At lower tide, more sand and volcanic rock are exposed. At higher tide, the sea fills more of the bay and the two beaches feel closer to one continuous coastline.
Late in the day, I like continuing from one beach to the other rather than stopping at a single sunset viewpoint.
Always check the waves, wind and local safety controls before entering the water.
Tide times change every day. Check current tide information for the day of your visit rather than relying on a fixed time.

BEFORE YOU GO
Availability, seasonal opening and fees may change. Check current conditions when you arrive.
Small shell fragments and volcanic rock may be mixed into parts of the shore, so water shoes can make walking and swimming more comfortable.
WITHOUT A CAR
Hyeopjae and Geumneung are on Jeju’s west coast, so reaching them from Jeju City or the airport takes time.
Check both the walking distance from the bus stop and the return schedule before starting your trip.
Bus routes and travel times can change, so use a live Korean map service on the day of travel.
Google Maps is useful for locating the beaches, but Korean map services may provide more detailed local transit information.
