Travelling through southwest Jeju, Sanbangsan often appears without warning and fills the view.

Rising alone between the low-lying village and the sea, its sheer rock face leaves a very different impression from afar and up close.

01

Rising Above the Plain

Sanbangsan rises like a massive wall of rock above the fields and villages of southwest Jeju.

From a distance, it appears as a single rounded mountain. As you move closer, the vertical textures and deep lines of the cliff become increasingly visible.

Bomunsa at the Foot of the Mountain

Bomunsa Temple sits on the southern slope of Sanbangsan.

Basalt walls, stone steps, Buddhist statues and temple halls stand directly beneath the immense cliff, allowing visitors to experience the scale and texture of the mountain without climbing it.

03

Between Mountain and Sea

Looking toward the coast from beneath Sanbangsan reveals Sagye village, Brother Islands and the horizon of southwest Jeju.

On overcast days, the sea turns silver and subdued. Under clear skies, its deep blue forms a striking contrast with the mountain.

04

The Same Place, Different Weather

On clear days, every ridge and vertical line of Sanbangsan stands out sharply.

After rain, clouds descend toward the coast and the mountain takes on a quieter, more atmospheric presence.

Sanbangsan presents a different face with every season and change in weather.
