Yeongnak-ri Breakwater is a place where visitors wait, without a schedule, for wild dolphins to pass offshore.
Even when no dolphins appear, the volcanic shoreline, seabirds and fading sunset remain.

A Place to Watch the Sea
Most of the time at Yeongnak-ri Breakwater is spent waiting.
Eyes move slowly across the horizon, searching for a brief movement between the waves.
Some visitors hold fishing rods. Others raise cameras toward the sea.
Before the dolphins appear, this is simply a quiet stretch of Jeju’s southwest coast.

When the Dorsal Fins Appeared
After a long stretch of stillness, dark dorsal fins begin to appear above the water.
They disappear within seconds, then surface again farther along the coast.
The dolphins look small in photographs taken from shore, but their movement is unmistakable in person and remains in memory long after they are gone.

The southwest coast of Jeju becomes more distinct as the day approaches its end.
When the light drops toward the horizon, the sea shifts continuously between silver and gold.
Even without a dolphin sighting, watching the final light settle over the coast can make the visit worthwhile.

- Dolphins are wild animals, and sightings are never guaranteed.
- Watch quietly from land whenever possible.
- Do not chase, feed or interfere with their direction of travel.
- Binoculars or a telephoto lens make distant observation easier.
- Wet volcanic rocks can be extremely slippery.
- Sudden waves may reach farther inland than expected.
- Stay away from the edge of the breakwater and exposed rocks.
- Avoid the coast during strong winds, heavy rain or high waves.
- Take all litter with you.
