Seogwipo Port

Walking around Seogwipo Port brings the southern sea and the working harbor into the same view.

Boats move behind the volcanic coast and low path, with islands sitting farther offshore.

Even on diving days, I pause to look at this scene before the gear is loaded onto the boat.

One of the first landmarks to stand out around Seogwipo Port is Saeyeongyo Bridge.

As the bridge leads toward Saeseom, the sea opens on both sides.

It connects land and island, but on this day it also felt like the first boundary between the harbor and the wider sea beyond.

The sea feels different once it becomes somewhere you are about to enter.

Boats sit inside Seogwipo Port, while people and equipment move around the docks preparing to head offshore.

This was where I began getting ready for the trip toward Munseom.

A dive at Munseom begins before entering the water.

The suit, BCD, tank and regulator are checked one by one before leaving the harbor.

The preparation itself became part of how I remembered the day.

Once the gear was ready, the boat left the harbor.

Saeyeongyo slowly moved farther away, and the buildings of Seogwipo became smaller behind us.

The same landscape I had walked through earlier was now appearing from the opposite direction, from the sea.

From Seogwipo Port, Munseom can look like a small island sitting quietly offshore.

Approaching it by boat changes that impression.

The cliffs rise directly from the sea, and the scale of the rock feels much larger when seen from close to the water.

Munseom from land and Munseom from the sea felt almost like two different places.

The main reason I came to Seogwipo Port that day was to enter the sea around Munseom.

On the boat, the gear was checked again before preparing to enter the water.

Munseom seen from land, Munseom approached from the sea, and the place experienced beneath the surface each remained as a different memory.

What stayed with me most was not the harbor itself, but the moment of leaving it for the open water.

Looking back toward land from near Munseom, Seogwipo becomes a single landscape.

The harbor and the city stretch along the coast, with the mountains of inland Jeju rising behind them.

It was a view I had missed on the way out and noticed only while looking back.

At Seogwipo Port, the city and the sea do not feel separate.

Boats and people keep moving along the docks, with Saeyeongyo Bridge, Saeseom and Munseom continuing across the background.

I remember it less as somewhere to linger like a tourist attraction and more as a place to see how Seogwipo lives beside the water—and to leave for the sea beyond it.
