Wollyeong-ri

Cactus grows between volcanic rock and around village stone walls in Wollyeong-ri.

The colony along the coast is designated as a Natural Monument under the official name Jeju Wollyeong-ri Cactus Colony.

In the Jeju Wollyeong-ri Cactus Colony, palm-shaped cactus grows along the black volcanic coast. Rather than entering the designated area or touching the plants, the landscape is best viewed from the established path.

The boardwalk through the Jeju Wollyeong-ri Cactus Colony follows the coast between cactus-covered volcanic ground and the western sea. It is this stretch of walking that makes the different parts of Wollyeong-ri feel connected.

Continue toward the village and the coast opens into a small port. During my summer visit, people were swimming, paddling and spending time in the water.

This page does not present Wollyeong Port as an official swimming area. Check current conditions and safety before entering the water.

In summer, Wollyeong Port becomes lively with people swimming and snorkeling.

The port itself does not operate on business hours. If you rent equipment or book an activity, check the hours of the individual private operator.

Beyond the port, the boardwalk through the Jeju Wollyeong-ri Cactus Colony brings cactus, black volcanic rock and the sea into the same view.

Wind turbines appear repeatedly along the horizon, becoming part of the view from the cactus path, the port and the coast. Their facility name and specifications are not inferred here.

As light falls through the clouds, the western sea and horizon take on a different atmosphere.
